Ab 1741 wurden die Herzogtümer Sachsen-Weimar und Sachsen-Eisenach in Personalunion regiert, bildeten jedoch zwei getrennte Landesteile, bis sie 1809 formell im Herzogtum Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach (ab 1815 Großherzogtum) vereinigt wurden.
