Gregorius und Johann Ernst hatten gemeinsame Lateinstunden in Gotha. Gregorius scheint eine persönliche Beziehung zu dem Schüler entwickelt zu haben und bat Ludolf brieflich ihn zu küssen. Aus die Nachricht des Todes des Kindes, schrieb er an Ernst einen Kondolenzbrief.
