OhdAB items

Hi Ferran! I see you started adding Spanish and Catalan labels on our new section of User:Katrin Moeller's OhdAB-database. All translations are welcome, although I fear this is a bottomless pit with the sheer numbers of this section - 45.000 items covering all sorts of jobs from the 1500s to modern (the same basic numeric system is used by Germany's employment agency so that you can now track historical developments into present fields).

I still have to complete the matching of our usual "career statements" which will remain in use as bridges into her database (her database will give us statistics etc.). You did the right thing by keeping the number codes in the beginning of the labels which you set on the same OhdAB items. Our own Items are to 50% already connected. The other 50% have string proposals, which I remove whenever I see that the matching is correct. This is - with some 3000 remaining items - a good deal of work on my table.

Many of the English labels are DeepL-machine translations. They are not perfect yet. The original labels are German. The following link gives you the entire data-base (without several thousand German name and spelling variants which she has in her own external database):

Hi, Olaf! Helping is always a pleasure, and even though the task of translating all OhdAB items may be monumental, contributing to their completion is truly enjoyable. Indeed, since I first discovered their existence while perusing PhiloBiblon items, the OhdAB items have sparked great curiosity and interest within me.

The concept of an international vocabulary of occupations is really fascinating. Moreover, the link you provided to the entire database is incredibly helpful, and I'll make sure to explore it thoroughly. The bright move would be a DeepL translation of the 45.000 and then you pick all those you are interested in and we do a machine input and generate the ones we do not have so far. Hello, Deepl can only offer Spanish translations. But I can create them for you. I hope I can manage that this week. I still have to integrate the Q-numbers into my database. Can ChatGPT translate Catalan well? I could have a go at it over Christmas. --Katrin Moeller (talk)

I completely agree with the observation Olaf has made: correcting afterward is undoubtedly more efficient.

So far, I have been translating the OhdAB items that appear while working with the PhiloBiblon vocabulary. However, if an automatic translation were to take place, instead of translating, I can copy the "English" field of the items I am working on to the "Spanish" and "Catalan" fields to facilitate the subsequent translation (assuming that this is a positive aspect—I am unfamiliar with how DeepL operates). Hei Ferran, I see you are creating serial objects - numbers in this case. You can use QuickStatements to do that far mor efficiently. Hi, Olaf! Certainly, I have been generating a series of numbers for PhiloBiblon. I appreciate your suggestion and I want to thank you for bringing it to my attention. I have already created the necessary items for PhiloBiblon, however I will consult the Help section the next time I need to create serial objects, as you kindly suggested.

Link to Wikidata whenever you can

I linked him to wikidata see: Item:Q720186. The Wikidata link makes it impossible to create him a second time on FactGrid. Also: look at objects that have comparable information to see how to use properties (like we have a place of birth property...). Regarding your comments, I appreciate the information you have provided; thank you so much for your advice. In the new elements I have created, I have already taken into account whether the respective item already existed in Wikidata. Additionally, I have not only included the link but have also used the information structure provided there as a reference.
