Charles, in my opinion you produced a clear contradiction. Either it is a sujet or its not.--Martin Gollasch (talk) 21:36, 3 July 2023 (CEST)

Hi Martin, I'm not quite sure what you're referring to, but in the statement "Not to be confused with" the value "Theme" was used twice. I removed one of them.

I need an item for a very precise case: a person who is the subject of or is mentioned in work. E.g., the subject of a biography. Any ideas? Charles Faulhaber (talk) 22:56, 3 July 2023 (CEST)

I concede, it is difficult.
  • A topic can be anything - the topic of a dissertation (P243).
  • A sujet is more in the direction of a typical plot - maybe Billy the Kid (P576).
  • "Western would" be more of a genre of film (P122).
But maybe the differences between P243 and P576 is too small to make sense. --Olaf Simons (talk) 00:19, 4 July 2023 (CEST)
Sujet or not a sujet... You fixed it meanwhile here. Working in several languages we should try not get oversophisticated. I think that's a real danger we have to be aware of. It can be seen in wikidata quite often that an items develops different meanings in different language versions... --Martin Gollasch (talk) 00:37, 4 July 2023 (CEST)

Actually For the context in which the term "subject" is used in PhiloBiblon it shpuld either be P33 "person mentioned in text" or P143 "item mentioned", depending on whether we are referring to a person or something else. I.e., this is much like the list of references one would find in the index to a book.

Useful discussion. It's solved one of my problems! Charles Faulhaber (talk) 02:16, 4 July 2023 (CEST)
